Robert Mapplethorpe

There is so much to say about Robert Mapplethorpe. His photographs are what I would consider to be the most interesting form of art. I genuinely love his art and the way he showed the beauty of humans. He shows this in a way that is different, powerful, important, and brave. People have different ways of thinking. There are people who may see his photographs and find them to be disrespectful, disturbing, and wrong. He really challenged art in a way that is so different. I feel as though his art is a perfect representation of the 70s. His photographs definitely get you to think and it’s almost as if you were seeing images that you have never seen before. Although his photographs may come off as inappropriate or “too much” to some, I think they are truly beautiful. I think the human body and human nature is wonderful. What art is better to see than the one that human beings live on a daily basis. I don’t think that his photographs are wrong. His art is cool, it is the opposite of boring. Something about art that is not boring always catches my attention. I think that criticism and controversy only shows how impactful and different something or someone is. He is different from other artists. Which is not a bad thing at all. Roberts' art had a huge impact in certain eras and even to this day. To me, his photographs are the definition of art. I love that he challenged society.
